Uber says it received more than 3,000 reports of sexual assault in US in 2018

Ride-hailing industry Uber Technologies Inc said it had collected more than 3000 reports of sexual attack and harassment, including rape, related to its trips in the United States in 2018, at a time when it worked approximately about 1.3 billion trips. Uber stated that the numbers represented a 16% drop in the rate of events from the previous year in the five most dangerous categories of sexual assault reported.

The news comes as Uber is under pressure from governors in many cities, including London which recently canceled the company’s license to carry passengers over ‘pattern of failures’ on safety and security.

Uber also said the 84-page record confirmed its confinement to transparence with the goal of driving – “accountability and improve security for Uber and the entire industry.”
